Journeys

This Recreation and Leisure center offers an adult day program designed to meet the needs of individuals who have intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The center serves individuals over the age of 18 with a diagnosis of a developmental disability, all of whom are severely disabled and many are medically fragile. Participants are engaged in activities and experience community integration. They receive assistance with activities of daily living such as medication administration, blood pressure monitoring and self-care needs.

Journeys is the only Montessori facility for adults with IDD in the Colorado Springs community. The Center houses a special multi-sensory room also known as Snoezelen, which provides sensory stimulation in a relaxing, controlled and accessible environment. The experiences are designed to stimulate the senses at all levels, from passive enjoyment to active decision-making. In addition, clients will have the opportunity to participate in self-directed activities created with Montessori curriculum. They can choose individual activities that increase their problem solving abilities or can participate in larger group activities, working together to achieve a certain task
