A Message from Goodwill Regarding Respiratory Illness

Dear Friends of Goodwill,

At Goodwill of Colorado, we share your deep concerns and sadness about the impact coronavirus (COVID-19) is having on our community. We are committed to getting through this crisis together, with the health and safety of everyone as our top priority. However long it takes, we will continue to do everything possible to serve the people of Colorado as we have for decades, by providing vital services to those in need, and by helping people get skills and training to gain independence and take care of themselves and their families.

To support public health efforts, Goodwill is temporarily closing all of our retail locations in Colorado (including Outlets, Déjà Blue and standalone donation centers), until further notice. This change will go into effect at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23.

Some of our employees will continue to be paid and some will be furloughed with a return to employment once we reopen. All employees currently signed up for Goodwill’s health insurance plan will continue to be covered at least through the end of April.

To be the best stewards of the community’s generosity, and to prevent the unsafe conditions that arise when donations are left at unattended sites, our in-store donation centers will remain open from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily. All items will be placed into quarantine for a minimum of 72 hours and extra precautions are being taken to protect our donors and employees.

Our online storefront continues to operate, with modified scheduling and other essential protocols in place to allow for safe social distancing. We continue to practice social distancing for all Goodwill employees and are taking all necessary steps to help prevent the spread of illness, like frequently washing our hands, and staying home if we feel ill. Additionally, we’ve cancelled or postponed large gatherings and meetings, and adjusted work accommodations whenever possible.

As for the community programs Goodwill exists to provide, we remain committed to serving and assisting our program participants and employees throughout this crisis.

While some of our programs have also temporarily closed to align with CDC recommendations, many Goodwill programs are crucial for the people we serve. In addition, many of our programs are classified as “essential” and part of the government’s “Critical Infrastructure Industry,” meaning that continuing operations is critical and promotes our nation’s ability to effectively combat this virus. Our Fresh Start Commercial Laundry, for example, will remain fully operational, providing services for entities like VA Clinics in Wyoming and throughout the Front Range and Evans Army Community Hospital.

Dear Goodwill Supporters,

As part of Goodwill’s continued response to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to promote the health and safety of all employees, shoppers, donors and volunteers, we are reducing the hours for all retail stores and donation centers in Colorado (including Outlets) to 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily, until further notice. Additionally, our Déjà Blue Boutique will be closed until further notice. This change will go into effect on Thursday, March 19, 2020.

We are constantly monitoring this quickly and ever-changing situation and will make any appropriate adjustments as it develops. We continue to consult the latest recommendations from our federal, state, and local governments, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).

Our efforts to provide a safe, welcoming environment remain in place, with frequent cleaning of store surfaces, supplying hand sanitizer and providing ongoing training, support, and resources to our employees and volunteers.

Dear Goodwill Shoppers and Donors,

At Goodwill, we have been closely monitoring developments within the Colorado communities we serve regarding coronavirus (COVID-19). Our ongoing, primary concern is for the well-being of our guests, program participants, staff and our community. In addition, we hope for a speedy and complete recovery for those who have been diagnosed with the virus.

Goodwill is doing its very best in this quickly changing landscape to support our community by keeping individuals safe.

Here are some of the measures we are taking to reduce the spread of illness:

  • Cleaning the frequently touched surfaces in our stores, program locations and contract areas more often.
  • Increasing the quantity of hand sanitizer available as quickly as possible in all of our locations to support good hygiene habits as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). As you may know, these items are currently in short supply, but we are doing our best to procure them quickly.
  • We are committed to taking care of our team members: providing them with information and resources so they can keep themselves and their families safe, encouraging them to stay home if they exhibit symptoms and raising awareness around the importance of frequent hand washing and covering one’s cough.
  • Creating contingency plans to minimize disruption of services to our program participants, customers, donors and contract locations.
  • Suspending serving food and beverage items in our stores’ Books and Brew areas to reduce the spread of illness.
  • Utilizing technology to communicate with groups when meeting in person is not critical.
  • Closely monitoring the latest information and guidance from the CDC, trusted community partners, and our local medical professionals.

We want you to feel safe and welcome when visiting any of our locations.
