Optional Incentive Ideas
Your Discover Goodwill Donation Drive is a great opportunity to build morale and camaraderie among participants. To maximize the benefits and outcome, consider adopting one of the following incentives or developing your own. Incentivizing your participants will increase the fun factor, and boost the volume of donations to Discover Goodwill.
Donation drives are most successful when they include special recognition and healthy competition. Allow participants to create teams or divide your organization, institution, or agency into groups. Designate separate collection sites and track which team collects/donates the largest number of items. The winning team can receive a prize donated by one of your local community partners or Discover Goodwill. Prizes might include a catered lunch, pizza party, event tickets, dress-down day(s), or extra credit for a class.
Before launching your donation drive, establish an overall goal that is challenging but achievable. If participants exceed this goal, rally your organizers/leaders to do something amusing such as getting a pie in the face, volunteering for a dunk tank, or dressing like a fun character, perhaps sporting an outfit purchased at Discover Goodwill.
This incentive appeals to the philanthropic nature of donors. You can ask your financial supporters to match donations collected during your drive. For instance, if individuals donate 500 pounds of items, your supporter could issue a $500 check to Discover Goodwill, designated for one or more of our life-changing programs and services.
If your organization, institution, or agency has a close relationship with a retailer, request discount coupons redeemable at their stores, which you can give to individuals who contribute items to your Discover Goodwill Donation Drive. Many retail vendors are willing to support community outreach events because they attract more customers to their businesses.
Ask one of your community partners/supporters to donate a large prize(s) such as tickets to premiere events, high-end merchandise, or top-dollar gift cards. To be eligible for the prize drawing, donors must contribute a designated number of items to the donation drive.
